“Ma Rose” is an abstract piece done in textured, glossy acrylics. Bright red and copper tones offset the more sombre blues and blacks of the background, providing a beautifully contrasted piece ideal for modern interiors. The shapes present in the painting are inspired largely by the Art Nouveau movement, and by Alphonse Mucha’s drawings in particular. Though there is fluidity and movement in the shapes, these are contrasted by a certain quiet violence evident in the splatters of red and the rigid symmetry of the white thorns.
